"We're going to the zoo, zoo, zoo..."

It was a beautiful day to head to the Fort Worth Zoo earlier this week. We went with Craig's siblings and a two cousins and had a very, very nice visit.

Lots of animals. These are just a few of course.

(Yes, there were tigers and bears right next door, but I think that cliche has been done already.)

We stopped for lunch were The Bug and Miss. P. explored the wonders of gravel.

I'm not sure what is going on here with Aunt Cheri.

The highlight for The Bug had to be when we got some ice cream.

He was not to be denied. Everyone else was having some after all.

Everyone except Big I. He was happier with his lollypop.

BIG bunny

Meet Olaf. (Named for Olaf "Olie the Goalie" Kolzig.)

He's a super sweet Flemish Giant. We're smitten.

Leftovers

Remember that lovely neighborhood hawk that got the baby bunny a while back?

Look what I found today. Neat!

It's still in good shape too. The jaw and vertebrae are still attached. If I was still at work that would get added to our interpretation collection.

As an aside, when you find animal bones of any sort in the woods or fields, leave them there. The little critters gnaw on them for the minerals. Many times if you look closely you can see the teeth marks.

Look what our new camera does automatically! One end of our wee yard to the other. Also neat!

New wildlife

We've got a new resident in the neighborhood. Isn't she lovely?

I haven't figured out what type of hawk it is yet. It's a little small to be a redtail, but I guess it could be a male. I'll have to look it up. But I do know what she's been eating from my yard!

She can have all she wants!

I cleared out some of the cantaloupes from the yard the other day. Look what I found wedged in between fence sections - funniest shaped melon I've ever seen.

I had to get Craig to yank it out it was in there so tight. I told you they were taking over the place.
